Story time, boys and girls! I never really played Dota 1 back in the Warcraft 3 days, although I did play plenty of custom maps. I played Dota probably 3 times. I knew nothing. I ran and tri-laned with heroes I shouldn’t have, I then got ganked via the forest in lane over and over, and then I quit thinking, “Fuck this shit.”
Fast forward to a year ago last March. I found a Steam beta invite for Dota 2 one morning in my inventory, and I said to myself, “Why not. Lets try this one more time. Lets REALLY learn how to play this.” So, how did I decide to do this? Well, I did some research. And I chose to play the slowest, squishiest, most poorly animated hero in the game. I played Crystal Maiden. For one hundred games straight (give or take 1 or 2 that I got stuck being unable to play her). It was brutal. But, I learned how to play her, and once I knew her skills, I watched the other heroes and learned what they could do. And I watched a ton of Purge Plays videos. It worked for me. Except that I’m still shitty for the most part. And I still see a therapist twice a week. Oh, and I like the hair on this set.
This HUD right here was actually added into the patch files last week, so expect to see it shortly. I find it to be very… cool. …God I hate myself sometimes
There is just something about this set that is different enough for me to enjoy it. Also, it has an excellent backstory crafted for it.
This young warrior was born without horns, the rest of the tribe were worried that this would tarnish their proud reputation and cast the young warrior out of the tribe and into the wild confident he would not last long. The young warrior was so distraught that he carved a mask out of wood and wore it from that day forward…
Several years passed and the warrior had travelled across many different lands, met many different people and fought countless battles.
Over this time story’s of a lone masked warrior crept across the land, a warrior that had fought and won every battle he encountered, they called him the “Outcast”…
The set is very well crafted, so please do stop over to the workshop page and look it over.
This is going to be one of those sets that you either love because it’s so different, or hate because… well, it’s so different. My take? Bloody amazing. You can still tell who it is, but now she just came back from Mardi Gras (sans beads, apparently). I kind of wish that the mask part had a bit of a design on it, as it looks a bit boring compared to the rest of the outfit. But that’s a minor complaint.
He looks like he’s from an ancient civilization or a transformer. SVEN. TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT. The sword is the highlight of the set, while the mask design, while I love it, may be the issue in getting the set accepted. Still, I think it works enough to be added as is.
It’s so good I really have nothing to say on it. The only thing that would be more awesome to me (Which I don’t think the system is set up to do) is have those cogs spinning. At that point, I’d just install a CC machine on my PC to help Valve TAKE MY MONEY.
That’s about it for this week, I’m afraid. Once again, thanks for joining me. As always, feel free to leave any comments/constructive criticism in the comments, and I’ll see you next week.
